Weekend Deaths Take Two Sisters

Two elderly sisters died within a few hours and within a few miles of each other this weekend. They were Mrs. Effie Belle Danner of Astoria and Mrs. John (Alma) Burkholder of Macomb.

Belle Danner

Mrs. Effie Belle Danner, 95, of Astoria died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, 1973, at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in the Astoria Church of the Brethren with Rev. Arnold Naff officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 29, 1877 in Schuyler County, a daughter of Charley and Angeline Skiles Markley. She married Isaac Danner in 1897, and he died in 1938.

Surviving are two sons, Earl of Canton and Ralph of Ipava; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Evans of Canton and Mrs. Freida McCormick of Astoria; 10 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Harris of Browning; and two brothers, Charley of Roseville and Sam of Milan.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, two sons, three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters and two brothers.

Alma Burkholder

Mrs. John (Alma) Burkholder, 86, of Macomb died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 1973 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon at Clugston Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Lester Honderich and Rev. Wesley Wallore officiating. Burial was in South Fulton Cemetery near Astoria.

She was born Dec. 2, 1886, a daughter of Charles and Angeline Skiles Markley. She married John Burkholder in 1903 and he died in 1958.

Surviving are a son, Eldon of Macomb; two daughters, Mrs. Shelby (Mildred) Moose of Plymouth and Mrs. Arnold (Mary) Coats of Macomb; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sam of Milan and Charles of Roseville; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Harris of Browning.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, and four sisters.
