Samuel Markley Of Rock Island Dies

Samuel E. Markley, 82, of 3130 9th St., Rock Island, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, 1976, at Franciscan Hospital, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hodgson Funeral Home. Elders Clyde McKee and Ben McAdams of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Rock Island officiated and burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg, where graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Markley was born Nov. 17, 1893, in Schuyler County, Ill., the son of Charles and Angeline Skiles Markley. He received his education in the Browning, Ill., schools and had been a resident of New Boston prior to moving to Rock Island 36 years ago.

He married Irene Ducan Nov. 11, 1925, in New Boston. He had been employed at the Horst and Strieter Motor Co. and Bob Neal Ford as an auto mechanic, retiring in 1966.

Mr. Markley was a 50-year member of the Masonic order and was a member of Rock Island Lodge No. 658, AF & AM.

Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Allen Hutt, Milan; two grandsons; one great-grandson; two step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mary Harris, Rushville, and a brother, Charles Markley, Roseville. He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and five sisters.
