Gerald ClaytonGerald L. Clayton, 75, of rural Browning died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Kerton Township, Fulton County, a son of Leroy and Mary Crable Clayton. He married Betty Burgard on Aug. 28, 1949, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra Curless of Bartonville and Anita (and Rodger) Tarr of Bloomington; one son, Mark (and Mary) Clayton of Astoria; two brothers, Delbert (and Delores) of Havana and Cecil (and Sue) of Canton; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one son, Todd; and one brother.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Astoria American Legion Post 25. He was a farmer.

He was a member of Vermont Masonic Lodge 116; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Springfield; Ansar Shrine of Springfield; Royal Order of Jesters, Court 20; and Spoon River Valley Shrine Club.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, with Rev. Marty Briney and Rev. Marion Stone officiating. Burial was in Sheldons Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Culbertson Memorial Hospital or Sheldons Grove United Methodist Church.
