Earl A. “Red” Clemens, 73, of rural Astoria, died at 8:42 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at his home.

He was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Farmers Township, Fulton County, a son of Lee R. and Viola Parsley Clemens. He married Muriel A. “Cookie” Merry on May 8, 1946, in Ipava. She died March 15, 1998.

Surviving are three daughters, Gladys Blickenstaff, Patricia Lane and Robin Popplewell, all of Astoria; two sons, Lee and Tim, both of Astoria; one brother, Leroy of Astoria; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He farmed in the Astoria area. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Astoria Church of the Nazarene.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Layton Malone officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery, with full military rites accorded by Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Memorials may be made to the Spoon River Hospice.
