Verne Curless Dies At Age 82

Verne Curless, 82, former manager of Table Grove Elevator, died at 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1989, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was manager of the Elevator for 32 years before retiring. He was a member of Fulton County Board of Supervisors, and Supervisor of Farmers Township for 20 years.

Other memberships include Past Patron of Astoria Chapter 144 Order of Eastern Star; a 50-year member of Table Grove Masonic Lodge 939, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; Mohammed Temple, Shrine; Macomb Elks Lodge 1009 and Table Grove United Church of Christ.

He was born July 19, 1906, in Bluff City, a son of Elmer and Mary Jane Shaw Curless. He married Dorothy Irene Camp in 1928 at Havana. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Joan) Shawgo of Galesburg; two sons, Dr. Jack Curless of Tinley Park and Jerry Curless of West Palm Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; and four nieces.

Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m Friday in the Table Grove United Church of Christ with Rev. Bruce Peterson and Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont.

Memorials may be made to his church, Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children, Table Grove Rescue Squad or Masonic Lodge 939.
