She was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Astoria, the daughter of Verne and Dorothy Camp Curless. She married Lawrence O. Shawgo on Aug. 15, 1948, in Astoria. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2012.
She also was preceded in death by one brother.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (and Patricia) Shawgo of Franklin, Wis., and Kevin (and Lisa) Shawgo of Nevada, Iowa; one brother, Jerry (and Karen) Curless of Englewood, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
She graduated from Astoria High School in 1947. She was a salesclerk for Ralston, Hanna and Orwig’s Hardware in Galesburg for 25 years.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Galesburg for 57 years. She was a past Elder and Deacon. She taught Sunday school for 17 years and she was a caring minister for the church and leader in Women’s fellowship for many years.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by a time of fellowship at her church with Rev. Martha-Jean Fitch officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Harris Cemetery in Table Grove. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
