RACHEL (SMITH) CARTER

Mrs. M. B. Carter, Summum, Died Wednesday P.M.

Mrs. Rachel Carter of Summum, died Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock at the Gospel Mission Faith Home in Canton, following an illness of six months duration.

The deceased was born August 12, 1858. She was the daughter of James and Harriett Smith. On Dec. 2, 1875, she was united in marriage with Milton B. Carter. To this union eight children were born. Two are deceased. The surviving are: Mrs. Mary Parr, Astoria, Mrs. Mabel Smith and Mrs. Etta Scrogum, Summum, Mrs. Inez Scrogum and Mildred McMullen of Moline, Mrs. Helen Mummert of Canton.

She is also survived by one brother, Adrian Smith of Ipava and 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Carter was a member of the Christian church.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Summum Christian church, Rev. John Hubbs, officiating. Burial in Summum cemetery.
