Mildred BeansMildred Marie “Millie” Beans, 94, of Vermont died at 9:28 a.m. Sept. 15, 2021, at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 7, 1927, in Adair, a daughter of Dewey P. and Alma E. Gruber Litchfield. She married Rankin Stephens Beans on April 2, 1960, in Macomb. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1990.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine (and Lloyd) Greuel and Mary (and Robert) Botts; and three brothers, Deane, Maurice and Marshall Litchfield.

Surviving are three daughters, Stephanie (and Eric) Ewing of Rushville, Samantha Beans (and wife Kelli Hohenstein) of Wylie, Texas, and Christiana (and Bret) Gaston of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Industry High School with the class of 1945, taking a job at the Macomb Courthouse as a secretary, before moving to Washington DC in 1946, where she worked at the Pentagon as a secretary for the U.S. Navy for two years. She then worked in Japan and Guam for the U.S. Geological Survey for four years and returned to Washington DC to teach ballroom dancing at Arthur Murray School of Dance for two years. Later she moved back to Industry where she worked at KenRay Brass in Vermont and Stevens Publishing in Astoria. She then took time off to raise her family and became a professional photographer. She then was employed by NTN Bower in Macomb, and later by Western Illinois University as an administrative assistant until retirement.

She was a member of Vermont Christian Church serving as a deaconess for many years. She also was a member of PEO, Vermont Women’s Club and served on the Vermont Public Library Board.

Funeral services were held Saturday at her church with Rev. Stacy Tomich officiating. Burial followed at the Vermont Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
