William “Willie” Bucher

William "Willie" BucherWilliam E. “Willie” Bucher, 77, of Astoria died at 7:10 a.m. Aug. 13, 2014, at Prairieview Care Center in Lewistown.

He was born Aug. 20, 1936, in Pekin, a son of Isaac G. and Ferne M. Kessler Bucher. He married Nellie G. Busby on Nov. 30, 1954, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Lu Ann (and Charlie) Bollinger of Astoria; two sons, Alvin (and Lori) Bucher and Larry (and Lisa) Bucher, both of Astoria; three brothers, Jim (and Susie) Bucher of Macomb and Bob (and Susie) Bucher and Albert (and Marsha) Bucher, both of Astoria; two sisters, Carolyn (and Rod) Bricker of Torrington, Wyo., and Alice (and Wendell) Clanin of Astoria; one sister-in-law, Debbie Bucher of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Erik Bucher; and one brother, Tom Bucher.

He worked for Amax Coal Company, retiring in 1983. He worked at Sunspot Mine in Vermont, Peabody Coal Company in Rushville and Truex Mine in Canton. He also was a livestock, grain and dairy farmer on the family farm north of Summum. He was founder of Bucher Fence Building Company in Astoria, retiring in 2011.

He was a member of United Mine Workers of America.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Ken Peterson officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
