Sherman BucherSherman R. Bucher, 92, of Astoria died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Astoria Manor.

He was born Dec. 16, 1909, in Astoria, a son of Cyrus G. and Mabel Miller Bucher. He married Elizabeth Horton on Feb. 11, 1935, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Mike of Clancy, Mont., and Roger (and Pat) of Rochester; one daughter, Ann (and Bill) Robinson of St. Charles; two sisters, Mildred Foutch of Astoria and Eunice Keim of Metamora; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael; two brothers; and one sister.

He farmed until retiring in 1965. He then sold securities, insurance and real estate as an independent agent.

He was a member of Astoria Church of the Brethren.

He also was a member of Vermont Masonic Lodge 116 and Ipava Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 226.

He had served on the Astoria Community School Board from 1958 to 1964 and on the Woodland Cemetery Board from 1949 to 1990.

He also had served as Fulton County Regional School trustee from 1969 to 1995, Astoria Township trustee from 1967 to 1992 and Woodland School trustee from 1943 to 1957.

Services were held on Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery.
