ELIZABETH V. (HORTON) BUCHER

Elizabeth V. Bucher, 97, of St. Charles, Ill., formerly of Astoria, died at 6:45 a.m. Oct. 3, 2013, at her home.

She was born Oct. 31, 1915, in Astoria, a daughter of William Martin and Cora Blanche Vanness Horton. She married Sherman Roy Bucher on Feb. 11, 1935, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2002.

She also was preceded in death by two sons, infant Michael Roy Bucher and Michael Keith Bucher; one grandson, Martin William Robinson; one sister, Verna (Horton) Bubb; and two brothers, Melvin and Keith Horton.

Surviving are one son, Roger (and Pat) Bucher of Springfield; one daughter, Ann (and Roger Bill) Robinson of St. Charles, Ill.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She and her husband farmed near Astoria for many years, raising their family on the farm southeast of Astoria. Later, they moved to town and she worked at the Argus Searchlight and Subway Cafe.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.

Services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private burial will be held at Woodland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
