Amos L. Beans, 72, of Vermont, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday, June 21, 1996, at his home.

He was born Dec. 11, 1923, at the “Hardy Able” Family Farm in rural Astoria, a son of Amos T. and Velma Stephens Beans. He married Betty J. Martin on Feb. 14, 1944, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Martin Lynn Beans of Astoria; two daughters, Amylu Brillhart of Galesburg and Barbara Sue Hickey of Springfield; two brothers, Phil Beans of Joppa and Roger Beans of Highland, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Jason Beans, Jared Beans, Jillessa Beans, Christopher Williams, Antoinette Hickey, Cynthia Gadberry, Kimberly O’Neil, Billi Jo Fehrholz; and five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams, Christopher Hickey, Cody Hickey, Matthew Haffner, Bryce Fehrholz.

His parents and one brother, Rankin Beans, preceded him in death.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Carroll-Rankin Post 26 American Legion in Vermont. He was a self-employed plumber and was a member and served as chief of the Vermont Volunteer Fire Department for over 35 years.

Funeral services were held Monday at Kost Memorial Home with Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery where military rites were accorded by his American Legion post.
