Phil Lewis Beans, 89, of Joppa died at his home on the morning of Dec. 25, 2014.

He was born July 8, 1925, in Vermont, a son of Amos and Velma Stephens Beans. He married Marguerite Emilie Schoene. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Lewis Wesley Beans of Paducah, Ky.; two daughters, Mary Kathryn Beans of Plano, Texas, and Carolyn Louise Britt of Christmas, Fla.; one brother, Roger Beans of Valparaiso, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Amos Beans Jr. and Rankin Beans.

He was one of the original employees of Electric Energy, Inc. working there from June 1952 to March 2006, over 53 years. He initiated the design and development of Ft. Massac Water District and was one of the founders of Massac County Mental Health.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific theater.

He was a little league baseball coach in Joppa. He served as assistant scout master of Metropolis Troop 19.

He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Joppa.

There will be no services. Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis is in charge of arrangements.
