He was born May 1, 1915, in Fulton County, a son of David C. and Rhoda May Trone Abbott. He first married Lavern Bricker on June 1, 1937, in Bloomington. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1997. He later married Esther Croxton Vaughn on Nov. 22, 1998, in Littleton. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2014.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Orson Abbott, Oliver Abbott and Carson Abbott; and one sister, Edna Lashbrook.
Surviving are one son, Eugene (and Dorothy) Abbott of Delavan; two stepsons, Danny (and Dana) Vaughn of Herrin and Dave (and Nita) Vaughn of Roxboro, N.C.; one sister, Rosalee Kotter of Rushville; three grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.
He first farmed with his dad and uncle. He was a postal carrier in the post offices in Frederick, Quincy and Macomb for 59 years, retiring in June 2002. He also had drove a delivery route for Prairie Farms for 12 years and operated Abbott’s Repair Shop in Macomb for 40 years.
He was a member of Astoria Church of the Brethren and attended Littleton United Methodist Church.
Services were held Tuesday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Rob Kirkham officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.
