Carson AbbottCarson Abbott, 88, of Rushville died at 2:50 p.m. June 26, 2009, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Feb. 25, 1921, in Schuyler County, a son of David and Rhoda Trone Abbott. He married Vera Kelly on May 2, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Joyce (and Charles) Lung of Oklahoma City, Okla., Joan Long of Naperville and Judy (and Ric) of Tuscon, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one one brother, Orson Abbott; and one sister, Edna Lashbrook.

He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran.

He worked at Harry Hall Coal Mine in Rushville, Davis IGA, Southern Illinois Breeder’s Association, Kotter’s Service and National Gypsum Company, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Houston United Methodist Church and volunteered with Schuyler County Food Basket.

Services were held Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with reverends Sheri Renner and Dixie Croxton officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.
