Vera AbbottVera A. Abbott, 94, of Rushville died at 9:58 p.m. July 24, 2014, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Macomb, a daughter of John Albert and Ethel (Lashbrook) Kelly. She married Carson Abbott on May 2, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2009.

She also was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kelly Mugg; two brothers, Gerald and Vernon Kelly; and four sisters, Melba Phillips, Lois Heaton, Inez Heaton and Marjorie Eddington.

Surviving are three daughters, Joyce (and Charles) Lung of Oklahoma City, Okla., Joan Long of Naperville and Judy (and Ric) Mills of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She worked at the Hornsby Dime Store and Davis IGA both in Rushville. In 1961, she and her husband moved to Arizona where she worked in quality control for Motorola for 15 years. In 1991, they returned to Rushville.

She was a member of Houston United Methodist Church.

Services were held Tuesday, at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Dixie Croxton officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.
