Esther Vaughn Abbott, 90, of Rushville, formerly of Littleton, died at 8:25 a.m. June 17, 2014, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven in Rushville.

She was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Rushville, a daughter of Frank and Minnie Hawkins Croxton. She married Sterling Eugene Vaughn on May 31, 1944, in Clovis, N.M. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1982. She later married Dale Abbott on Nov. 22, 1998, in Littleton. He survives in Rushville.

Also surviving are two sons, Danny (and Dana) Vaughn of Herrin and Dave (and Nita) Vaughn of Roxboro, N.C.; one stepson, Eugene (and Dorothy) Abbott of Pekin; one brother, Frank (and Jeri) Croxton Jr. of Kelso, Mo.; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one great-great-grandson, Braysen Michael Vaughn; one sister, Winifred McGinniss; and two brothers, John Croxton and Maurice Croxton.

She worked at Little’s Grocery in Littleton, was a clerk at Green Gables Motel and Donna’s Fashions, both in Rushville, retiring in 1999.

She was a member of Littleton United Methodist Church where she served as president of the United Methodist Women and Sunday school teacher for over 30 years. She also was a member of Littleton Home Extension.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Dixie Croxton officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Rushville.
