George WiseGeorge H. Wise, 84, of Astoria died at 1:17 a.m. July 16, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Schuyler County, a son of George G. and Flossie F. Ogden Wise. He married Helen McMullen Schisler on June 9, 1984, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Ed (and Kathryn) Wise of Worland, Wyo., Dan (and Robin) Wise of Bolingbrook, Jim (and Barb) Schisler of New London, Iowa, and Tom (and Annette) Schisler of Troy, Mo.; five daughters, Marsha Colletta of Oakland, Ore., Carrie Wise of Pensacola, Fla., Kristen (and Brad) Bettencourt of Annapolis, Md.; Christy (and Dave) Hultgren-Schisler of Peoria and Lori (and John Romano) Schisler of Springfield; one sister, Iona Wise of Astoria; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Gilbert Wise.

He was a navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1948-52 with a rank of EN3.

He worked in the Electro Motive Division of General Motors in LaGrange for 30 years. He also was a school bus driver for the Astoria Community School District for 23 years.

He was a member of Astoria Christian Church, a member of Astoria Lions Club where he was a past president, life member of Astoria American Legion Post #25, life member of VFW Post #5788 of Lockport, member of 40 et 8 Voiture 796 of Will County and South Fulton Senior Citizens Center in Astoria.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by Astoria American Legion Post #25.
