Former Resident Dies Thursday

Harry E. Wherley, 71, of Vermont, died Thursday afternoon in the Graham hospital in Canton after an illness of about six weeks duration.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Coleman Funeral Home in Lewistown with Rev. David Powell of Brooklyn, Ill., officiating. Burial was in the Hickory cemetery near Summum.

Mr. Wherley was born in Woodland township, June 8, 1890, a son of Conrad and Lena Stauffer Wherley. He was a retired carpenter and had lived in Astoria before moving to Vermont 10 years ago. He was a member of the Vermont Methodist church.

He is survived by his widow, the former Lela Wilson, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1912. Also surviving are a son, Charles Wilson Wherley of La Porte, Texas, a daughter, Lee Ellen Wherley of Peoria, three brothers, Earl of Macomb, Clarence of Lewistown, and Floyd of Water Valiet, Mich., one sister, Mrs. Ida Horton of Astoria.

He was preceded in death by one child in infancy and three brothers.
