Claire Thomas

Claire L. Thomas, 90, of Table Grove died at 11:28 p.m. March 17, 2009, in the emergency room at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Canton, a son of Edgar and Birdena Ferris Thomas. He married Evelyn D. Batterton on March 12, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Norman (and Pat) Thomas of Macomb and Keith (and Phyllis) Thomas of Florence, S.C.; three sisters, Mary Shawgo of Canton, Beatrice Morris of Chillicothe and Charlotte Lannery of Chicago; three brothers, Edgar Thomas of Canton, Aubrey (and Barb) Thomas of Lewistown and Maurice (and Anita) Thomas of Cuba; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Randall L. Thomas; one grandson, Bradley D. Thomas; one sister, Katherine Harris; and one brother, Karl Thomas.

He farmed for 25 years. He then worked at Table Grove Elevator, then NTN Bower in Macomb for 17 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Fulton County Farm Bureau.

Services were held Saturday at Table Grove Community Church with Rev. Robert Harrison officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava was in charge of arrangements.
