John "Sandy" TadejevicJohn M. "Sandy" Tadejevic, 86, formerly of Springfield, died at 3:36 a.m. Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton, where he was a resident.

He was born April 14, 1918, in St. David, a son of Frank and Helen Tomlianovich Tadejevic.

Surviving are two sisters, Margaret Behnke of Canton and Helen Fray of Astoria.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, Joseph and two infants; and four sisters, Catherine P. Sepich, Ann Byers and two infants.

A Navy veteran, he served for 12 years, retiring as an aviation chief ordnance man.

He was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1984. He was also a member of American Legion Post 32 in Springfield, Fleet Reserve Association, the USS Hornet Club and Voiture 40 et 8 Nationale 344. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, Springfield Hall-Hagle Chapter 15.

He worked as a clerk for the secretary of state in Springfield.

He had worked for the Illinois Public Works Department for 12 1/2 years and later worked at IHC.

He was a fourth-degree member of Bishon Griffin Assembly Knights of Columbus in Springfield and a third-degree member of Knights of Columbus, Canton Council.

He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Springfield.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canton with Rev. Arthur Meyer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:45-10:45 a.m. today at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home, with recitation of the rosary at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Canton, where military rites will be accorded.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery Fund or to Renaissance Care Center.
