Mrs. Elmer Thomas Dies In Emporia, Kansas

Estella Syvilla Thomas of Emporia, Kansas, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 28, at the St. Mary’s hospital.

Mrs. Thomas was born Nov. 2, 1886 in Fulton county, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John W. Huff of Summum. She was united in marriage to Elmer M. Thomas on January 17, 1906 at Lewistown.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and family moved to Kansas in February, 1917, and they have lived in the Plymouth community since 1918.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Myrle Hersh of Topeka, Mrs. Emma Banister of Emporia; two sons, Russell Thomas of Emporia and Herman Thomas of Wichita, Kansas. Also eight grandchildren: Edwin, Richard, LaJoyce, and Barbara Banister of Emporia; Warren and Norman Thomas of Emporia; Robert and Cheryl Lee Thomas of Wichita; two brothers, Cleve Huff and Chod Hoff of Ipava; two sisters, Mrs. Burley Shawgo of Astoria and Mrs. Hiram Ogden of Foster, Mo.

Mrs. Thomas belonged to the Royal Neighbors of America, Plymouth Ladies Aid Society, and Plymouth Farm Bureau Unit.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, March 30th at 2:00 o’clock in Emporia, with Rev. Leroy Hay of the First Christian church officiating. Mrs. Thomas was laid to rest in the Memorial Lawn cemetery at Emporia.

Out of town relatives attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Loy Tippey of Havana, George Gathmann of Peoria, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Ogden of Foster, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Hersh of Topeka, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Thomas and family, of Wichita, Kansas.
