Elmer M. Thomas Dies

Mrs. Gertrude Tippey of Lewistown received the following clipping from Emporia, Kans. recently telling of the death of her brother and thought maybe friends and relatives of this area would like to read it.

A retired farmer of the Plymouth community, Elmer Marion Thomas, 17 Neosho St., died today, Feb. 16, 1981, at the Emporia Rest Home. He moved to Lyon County in 1917 to farm the Fleming Farm near Plymouth. After six years, he bought land and farmed until his retirement 14 years ago. He was a 50-year member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

The funeral will be held in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel, Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Stephen J. Williams officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, Kans.

Mr. Thomas was the son of the late Jesse and Kathrine Kilbride Thomas. He was born Dec. 3, 1884, in Fulton County, Ill., and married Estella S. Huff in Lewistown, Ill., Jan. 17, 1906. She died March 28, 1951. On Dec. 26, 1955, he married Rachel Parker in Emporia, and she survives.

Other survivors are two sons, Russel H. Thomas, 610 Washington St., and Herman P. Thomas of Sun City, Ariz.; two daughters, Myrle M. Drake of Topeka and Erma E. Banister of Shawnee Mission; one stepdaughter, Louise Saffer of Pierce City, Mo.; two sisters, Gertrude Tippey of Lewistown, Ill., and Garnet Gathman of Forest City, Ill.; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great, great-grandchildren.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and one granddaughter.

Casket bearers were grandsons: Norman Thomas, Warren Thomas, Edwin Banister, Charles Jacobs, Robert LeGresley, and Robert M. Carter.

Soloist was J. Trevor Lewis, and Mrs. Robert R. Lenigan, organist.
