Robert Wayne Smith Sr., 81, of Harlingen, Texas, formerly of Astoria, died Nov. 20, 2024, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
He was born July 3, 1943, in Schuyler County, a son of Eldon and Leona Ebbert Smith. He married Rebecca Boldt on June 4, 1977, in Mt. Sterling. She survives.
Also surviving are six children, Robert (and Tracey) Smith Jr. of Louisiana, Monty (and Kay) Smith and Jacey (and Nathan) Rauch, both of Rushville, Wendy (and Marty) Cameron and Elizabeth Coulter, both of Astoria, and Mandy (and James) Stark of Havana; one brother, Dennis (and Judy) Smith of Frederick; one sister, Linda Billingsley of Huntsville; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Curtis; one brother, Donald Smith; and one grandson, Nicholas Smith.
He was the owner and operator of B and P Variety in Mt. Sterling, Rushville Arms and Ammo in Rushville, and Smitty’s Gas and Grill in Browning.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria at 7 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Matthew Thiner officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Inurnment will take place in the Christian Neck Cemetery in rural Rushville at a later date.
