DEWEY “ROCKY” SHAFFER JR.

Dewey "Rocky" Shaffer Jr., 86, of Astoria died at 11:30 p.m. Dec. 13, 2011, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

He was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Astoria, a son of Dewey and Bunch Grissom Shaffer. He married Willadean Danner on April 24, 1948, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Connie (and Steve) Merrick of Astoria; one son, Steve Shaffer of Lewistown; one brother, Rodney Shaffer of Astoria; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Shaffer.

He was a Marine veteran, serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

He worked for Navistar in Canton. He also farmed. He was a member of Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Woodland Cemetery in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Full military rites were provided by Astoria American Legion Post #25. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
