Jerry SchislerJerry L. Schisler, 72, of Astoria died at 11 p.m. June 10, 2011, at Graham Hospital Emergency Room in Canton.

He was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Bernadotte, a son of Perry and Grace Etter Schisler. He married Linda Bucy on July 5, 1959, in Havana. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Rick (and Bridget) Schisler of Owensboro, Ky., and Rodney (and Pam) Schisler of Elkins, Ark.; one brother, Bill (and Irene) Schisler of Ipava; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Schisler.

He was an Airman First Class, serving from 1961-1965 with the Ninth Organizational Maintenance Squadron.

He worked at Assembly and Tests at Caterpillar in East Peoria for 38 years, retiring in 2001.

He was a member of Astoria Village Board for 14 years; Astoria Village President, eight years; Astoria United Methodist Church; Vermont Masonic Lodge #116; and Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Robert Einhouse officiating. Masonic services were held Monday evening. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Memorials may be made to Astoria United Methodist Church or Astoria American Legion Post 25.
