MELBA G. (GREEN) STAMBAUGH

Melba Stambaugh

Melba G. Stambaugh, 80, of Saint Augustine died at 5:40 a.m. Jan. 29, 2008, at OSF St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room in Galesburg.

She was born June 28, 1927, in Bernadotte, a daughter of Delno and Mary VanFossen Green. She married John H. Stambaugh on Feb. 18, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Lee (and Anne) Stambaugh of Earl Park, Ind., John A. (and Becky) Stambaugh and Lloyd A. (and Terry) Stambaugh, both of St. Augustine; two brothers, Kenneth (and Melvina) Green of Canton and Norman (and Nabuka) Green of Vermont; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, James H. Stambaugh; one brother, Lloyd Green; and two sisters, Betty Harris and Doris Munson.

She worked for the Prairie City Nursing Center in Prairie City for 19 years. She also worked for Porceline in Macomb and the Ordnance Plant in Burlington, Iowa.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vermont Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
