George Sayers

George Robert Sayers, 68, of Rushville died at 10:33 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Oct. 7, 1933, near Astoria, Fulton County, the son of Herbert and Alma Stroops Sayers. He married Barbara Phelps on Feb. 14, 1954, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, David (and Chris) of rural Browning; one daughter, Toni (and Lamar) Schiller of Huntley; and four grandchildren.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Browning area. A member of Construction Laborers Local 253, he last worked for Freesen Inc., retiring in 1994. He was a Ridgeville Cemetery trustee.

He was a 4-H Club leader, Browning Township Republican committeeman and a Future Farmers of America sponsor.

Services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Henley officiating. Burial was in New Ridgeville Cemetery near Browning.

Memorials may be made to the Ridgeville Cemetery Fund, Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice or First United Methodist Church in Rushville.
