Opal Berniece Shook, 87, of Oquakwa, died at 7:50 a.m. Friday, July 16, 1999, at Community Medical Center, Monmouth.

She was born Dec. 12, 1911, in Astoria, a daughter of Harvey Lewis and Golda Stremmel Brinton. She married Earl Carlisle in Monmouth. She later married Warren C. Shook in Monmouth on June 15, 1940. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Wanda Carlisle Black of Macomb and Mrs. Gary (Nancy) Shook Beall of South Bend, Ind.; one son, John B. Carlisle of Rochester; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Caleb, William, Clifford and Roy; and one sister, Hilda Miller.

She was educated in the Vermont Schools.

Cremation has been accorded. No memorial services are planned at this time. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Nature Conservancy or the donor’s choice at left at the Chapel.
