HARVEY BRINTON

Harvey Brinton Vermont Brick Mason Killed

Harvey Brinton, 50, well known Vermont contractor, was killed on Thursday night on the Burlington-Monmouth highway, one and one-half miles south of Kirkwood, when struck by an automobile driven by W. W. Stillwell, of Galesburg, as he was making repairs on his machine.

Brinton was taken to Kirkwood immediately by Stillwell, where he was given first aid by local physicians. His condition was such that he was removed immediately to the Monmouth hospital where he died at 1 o’clock Friday morning. His death was caused by loss of blood and internal injuries. He is survived by his wife and nine children and also several brothers and sisters in Vermont, Abingdon and Monmouth.

Returning from Burlington, Iowa, about 8 o’clock Thursday night, Brinton and his son-in-law Harry Miller were a short distance from Kirkwood when they were stopped by wheel trouble. Finding it necessary to go for repairs, Miller left his father-in-law and walked into Kirkwood. While he was gone Brinton attempted to fix the disabled car, and although it cannot be learned whether he was on the highway or not, at the time of the accident, Stillwell did not see him standing at the side of his car and struck him.

He immediately stopped and brot the man into Kirkwood. In the meantime Miller had returned with repairs for the car and finding no one there was at a loss to know what had happened. He waited near the car for an hour and then returned to town where he learned of the accident.

The injured man was rushed to the hospital at Monmouth where Dr. Graham attended him but his injuries were of such extent and he had suffered the loss of such a great quantity of blood that he never regained consciousness.

Stillwell reported the accident to the state police and continued on his way to Galesburg but returned to Monmouth at 4 o’clock for the inquest at the funeral home.

Harvey Brinton has resided in Vermont for some time. He was well known in Astoria. At the present was working in Burlington, Iowa with his construction company. He was on his way to Monmouth at the time of the accident to visit his daughter.
