HARRY M. “SOL” STROOPS

Harry Stroops

Harry M. “Sol” Stroops, 88, of Canton, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, 1997, at his home.

He was born July 18, 1908, in Browning, a son of George C. and Florence Pearl Justus Stroops. He married Lois G. Cleer on Nov. 17, 1939, in Kahoka, Mo. She died Sept. 4, 1979. He also was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

He later married Georgia Fouts on Dec. 22, 1979, in Canton. She survives.

Surviving are one stepson, Drexel Fouts of Peoria; one stepdaughter, Clarabel Cluney of Glasford; six stepgrandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lela Belville of Astoria and Alma Sayers of Beardstown.

He worked at International Harvester in Canton for 21 years. He made and played violins and was recorded playing old-time fiddle music by the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

Services were held Sunday at Canton Assembly of God Church with Rev. Earle Black and Allen Worlin officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
