Graveside services for George Robert “Bob” Smith, 71, of Bushnell, who died at 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 1995, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Vermont Cemetery in Vermont with Rev. Ralph O. Swarthout officiating.

He was struck by a car Monday while riding a bicycle about four miles north of Bushnell on Illinois Route 41.

There will be no visitation. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.

He was born March 3, 1924, in Macomb, a son of Loren W. and Mary E. Carnes Smith. He married Edna Fowler on Dec. 11, 1980, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Teresa Smith of Moline; one stepson, Robert Cassel of Bader; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Locie and Samuel, both of Bushnell, James of Sunrise Beach, Mo., Wilbert of Chillicothe and Orville of Florida; and three sisters, Mildred Still of Havana, Mary Robertson of Browning and Arlene Willis of the state of Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Jane Smith, and one sister.

A construction worker, he was a member of Laborer’s Local 231 in Pekin. He was a member of Bushnell Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to the Bushnell Rescue Squad.
