VeteranV. J. Stambaugh Of Astoria Dies

Verle J. “Buck” Stambaugh, 65, of Astoria died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 1990, at St. John’s Hospital North in Springfield.

He was born June 7, 1925, in Astoria, a son of John William and Mabel Shaffer Stambaugh. He married Larella Kaffenberger on March 23, 1945, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, William M., Robert W. and Allen R., all of Astoria; two grandchildren; two brothers, Willis E. of Robinson and Phillip D. of Astoria; and one sister, Lois Lee Shawgo of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and his stepmother, Bula Stambaugh.

He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years, retiring in April 1989. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Astoria Cemetery with Rev. James Shirley officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of services.
