VeteranGlenn H. Smithe Dies On Nov. 29

Glenn H. "Smitty" Smithe, 68, of New Baden, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1987, at his residence.

He was born in Waterford Township near Lewistown, on May 29, 1919, a son of Glenn D. and Jessie (Hardin) Smithe. He was married to Marie Hunter. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Jessie H. Hughes of Lewistown; and the following children: Glenn Smithe and Vickie Smith, both of Davenport, Iowa, Carol Timbrook of Florida, Dixie Peas of Bellville, Diana Norbeck of Sandoval, John Smithe of Coon Rapids, Minn., Rita Meskil of Huey, Cindy Smithe of Katy, Tex., Gary Smithe of Marissa, Philip Smithe and Edward Smithe, both of New Baden, James Shank of Ipava, and William Shank of Vermont; one sister, Jacquetta Kolesar of Morton; 31 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his father and one granddaughter.

Glenn graduated from Astoria High School, retired from Civil Service at Scott Air Force Base; was a member and past commander of American Legion Post #292, Mascoutah; past District Commander of American Legion District #22; 40ET8 Voiture 926; Illinois Veterans Advisory Council at Quincy; World War II Air Force Veteran.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1987, at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah with Dr. Arthur Tinge officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery in Quincy.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
