MANNIE MARIE (HUNTER) SHANK SMITHE

Mannie Smithe

Mannie Marie Smithe, 79, of Belleville died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Four Fountains Convalescent Center in Belleville.

She was born March 20, 1924, in Vermont, a daughter of Curtis and Mannie Alma Spangler Hunter. She married Lyle J. Shank. He died Nov. 9, 1944.

She later married Glenn H. "Smitty" Smithe. He died Nov. 29, 1987.

She also was preceded in death by one granddaughter.

Surviving are six sons, James (and Janet) Shank of Macomb, William (and Janice) Shank of Vermont, John (and Kat) Smithe of Coon Rapids, Minn., Gary Smithe of New Athens, Philip Smithe of New Baden and Edward Smithe of New Memphis; four daughters, Dixie (and Alan) Pees of Belleville, Diana (and Larry) Norbeck of Iuka, Rita (and John) Meskil of Huey and Cindy Smithe of Katy, Texas; 26 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member and past president of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Unit 292, Mascoutah; 8 et 40.

Services were held Monday at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah with Rev. Dr. Arthur Tinge officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery in Quincy.

Memorials may be made to Belleville Family Hospice or American Legion Post 292 Auxiliary in Mascoutah.
