Glenn D. Smithe Dies In Hospital At Havana

Glenn Denning Smithe, 61, of Astoria died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason District Hospital in Havana, where he had been a patient 10 days. He had been ill several years.

He was born and reared at Lewistown and had lived in Astoria the past 25 years, following the occupation of carpenter and millwright. His birth date was Feb. 22, 1897. He was a son of Harry and Edith Quimby Smithe.

Mr. Smithe was a member of the Astoria EUB church and RNA Lodge, the District Council of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local at Canton and a charter member of the same organization at Havana.

Surviving are his widow, the former Jessie Hardin; one son, Glenn Hardin Smithe, Vermont; one daughter, Mrs. Jacquetta Kolesar, Morton; two brothers and a sister, Dean Smith, Otis K. Smith and Mrs. Elsie Hughes, Lewistown, and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Astoria Evangelical United Brethren church, conducted by the Rev. Fred Thompson and the Rev. J. E. Sibert. Burial was in Astoria cemetery.

The Shawgo Memorial Home had charge of the services.
