PAUL EVERETT SENGER

Paul E. Senger Dies At Age 69

Paul Everett Senger, son of S.J.C. and Ida Bucher Senger was born April 26, 1906 near Astoria. He departed on his final journey Nov. 1, 1975, at 4:45 p.m. from the Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn., following surgery and a massive heart attack.

He married Frances Edith Johnson on Oct. 13, 1940.

Paul accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age, united with the Woodland Church of the Brethren and later moved his membership to the Astoria Church of the Brethren. He found joy in serving as church clerk, chorister, Sunday School teacher, Camp director and counselor.

Paul taught school for thirty-five years, getting his formal education from Manchester College, North Manchester, Ind., Western Illinois University in Macomb, and the University of Illinois in Champaign. After retiring from teaching, he built and operated a Mobile Homes Park in Capron, Ill., and worked on the North West Tollway. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and the Astoria Lions Club, all of which were very dear to his heart.

Besides his wife Frances, he leaves one brother, John Senger of Warsaw, Ind.; five sisters, Leah Zunkel of Denver, Colo., Mary Swinger of Palestine, Rachel Bowen of Bellwood, Lois Corn of Wausau, Wis., and Ruth Corn of Maywood; 13 nephews; 12 nieces; and many relatives and friends. His parents, and two brothers, Aaron and Cyrus, preceded him in death.

Paul loved life and found joy in being with people and helping when possible. Fishing, traveling, telling jokes, taking pictures, love for relatives and friends, all contributed to a happy fruitful life. Paul’s last expression of love and concern for others was through donating his eyes. Paul was the chairman of the Astoria Lion’s Club eye bank committee, and was the first, under this program, to have his eyes used, so that another will have the gift of sight restored.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon in the Astoria Church of the Brethren with D. Arnold Naff officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.

Contributions in memory of Paul may be made to the Cancer or Heart funds and left at the Shawgo Memorial Home or the Senger residence.
