Dennis RobertsonDennis E. “Skip” Robertson, 74, of Ipava died at 6:18 a.m. March 10, 2022, at his home.

He was born Dec. 18, 1947, in Canton, a son of Philip and Doris Curless Robertson. He married Peggy Hackman on Nov. 8, 1980, in Havana. She survives.

Also surviving are five children, Nick (and Jenny) Robertson and Shawn Easley, both of Ipava, Robert (and Ricci) Easley of Marble Falls, Texas, Trent (and Laurie) Robertson of Astoria and Clark (and Crystal) Robertson of Tennessee; his mother, Doris Robertson of Ipava; one sister, Hila Phillips of Canton; three brothers, Steve Robertson and Allen (and Sheila) Hackman Robertson, both of Ipava, and Chris (and Jan) Robertson of Avon; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Philip, one nephew, Dalton Blakley, and one great-nephew, Cole Posey.

He served in the Vietnam War from 1968-69. While serving in Vietnam, he was a RTO who carried the radio for Lt. William Pray and two others. He was a part of the retaliation efforts after the Tet Offensive. After the war, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring after 20 years. He was known by his fellow reserves as “Pops”.

He was a true patriot and the military was a major part of his life and very important to him. Because of this, he took on several projects that honored his country and the veterans that served it, including designing and helping build the Veteran Memorial in Ipava.

He was a lifelong brick mason. He began by helping his dad build, including Western Illinois University buildings. He later became a bricklayer foreman for Stobeck Masonry for eight years. He went on to work as a foreman for Williams Brothers in Peoria for 17 years, retiring in 2006.

He was member of the Ipava Masonic Lodge, Ipava American Legion Post #17 and the Havana VFW.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Kevin Kessler officiating. Military rites were provided by the Ipava American Legion and Masonic rites provided by Ipava Masonic Lodge. Cremation rites were accorded.
