He was born Oct. 12, 1949, in Rushville, the son of Virgil Royer and Lela Collins Royer-Ray. He married Connie Bair on Aug. 15, 1970, in Astoria. She and baby preceded him in death on June 5, 1979.
Also preceding him in death was his stepfather, Hardin “Footsie” Ray; and one granddaughter, Alexis Miller.
Surviving are one daughter, Tisha (and Amanda Walker) Miller of Macomb; one stepdaughter, Megan (and Joe) Bieze of East Peoria; two stepsons, Shane (and Stacy) Gilmore of Banner and Marcus (and Tiffany) Sparks of East Peoria; two sisters, Darlene (and Randall) Prather of La Prairie and Linda (and Dave) Shaw of Marion; two grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and a special friend, Patty Wherley of Astoria.
He worked the milk route for Bob Walters Dairy. He also was a warehouse manager at Allied and a salesman at Wayne Dalton in Peoria.
He was raised in Littleton Methodist Church and went to the Tulis School before moving to Astoria. He graduated from Astoria High School in 1967. He was a member of the Teamsters Union out of Peoria.
Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Dixie Croxton officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to an education fund for grandchildren Laci and Colby Miller in care of the Woodforest Bank in Macomb.
