Hardin S. “Footsie” Ray, 83, of Astoria, died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 1996, at his home.

He was born May 8, 1913, in Pleasant Plains, a son of Earl and Anna Robinson Ray. He married Edna Pantier on July 4, 1937, in Pleasant Plains. She died Aug. 25, 1962, in Astoria. He later married Lela Royer on July 17, 1964, in Pleasant Plains. She died Oct. 26, 1995. He also was preceded in death by one sister.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Janet) Bucher of Astoria; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Randall (Darlene) Prather of LaPrairie and Mrs. David (Linda) Shaw of Roselle; one stepson, Terry Royer of Bartonville; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Byron (Eilene) Howard of Pleasant Plains and Ada Rule of Flossmoor; and three brothers, Jess Ray of Ridgefield, Wash., Bob Ray of Decatur and Earl Ray Jr. of Flossmoor.

He was a Standard Oil agent for a number of years, retiring in 1982. He then was a rural mail carrier for 10 years. He was a member of Vermont Masonic Lodge 116, AF&AM.

He was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church where services were held Saturday with Rev. Lance Leeds officiating. Masonic services were held. Burial was in Pleasant Plains Cemetery.

Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
