She was born July 14, 1920, in Schuyler County, a daughter of Elza C. and Lena Belle Sandidge Robeson. She married John W. Root on Jan. 12, 1938, in Schuyler County. He died Oct. 24, 2001.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Roger Root; one sister, Thelma Roberts; one brother, William Robeson; and four infant grandchildren.
Surviving are one daughter, Rita V. (and Thomas) Carroll of Beardstown; three sons, Harold K. (and Linda) of Beardstown and William Dale (and Mary) and Neil R., both of Rushville; one sister, Harriet Billingsley of Rushville; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Ray School. She helped her husband farm and was a life-long homemaker.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Wayne Bonser officiating. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery.
