He was born Friday, April 6, 1945, in Beardstown, a son of John Wilbur and Sarah Elizabeth Robeson Root. He married Gill Danner on July 21, 1979, in rural Table Grove. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Donald at home; his mother of Rushville; one sister, Rita V. (and Thomas) Carroll of Beardstown; three brothers, Harold K. (and Linda) of Beardstown, and William Dale (and Mary) and Neil R., both of Rushville.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Richard.
He worked for Hollenbeck Concrete in Rushville and Beardstown, retiring as plant manager in 1987 due to ill health.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Larry DeSha officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery.
