VeteranCalvin Richardson

Calvin G. Richardson, 77, of Astoria died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Fulton County, a son of Lafe and Edna Stanley Richardson. He married Wanda Flowers on Oct. 7, 1947, in Easton. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Steven (and Cheryl) of Berea, Ky., and Calvin (and Sue) and William, both of Lewistown; two daughters, Mary Lou (and Daniel) Orwig of Havana and Cynthia (and Mark) McCombs of Browning; four brothers, Frank of Browning, Paul and Jerry, both of Havana, and Lafe Jr. of Gravois Mills, Mo.; two sisters, Helen Farwell of Rushville and Martha Wright of Canton; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and one great-grandson.

He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946.

A member of Laborers Local 231 in Pekin, he worked for Jansen and Schaefer and R.A. Cullinan until retiring in May 1987.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Assembly of God Church in Havana with Rev. Roger Boyd and Rev. Guy Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
