Byron H. "Hank" Riebling, 76, of Vermont died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at 10:15 a.m. at 107 N. Second Ave. in Cuba.

He was born April 2, 1924, in McDonough County, a son of Carl and Lilly Stambaugh Riebling. He married Joan DeField on Dec. 1, 1946, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Greg Riebling of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Debra Riebling of Chicago and Deanna (and Steve) Butler of Pekin; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Wayne of Crescent City, Fla., Dale of East Peoria, Max of Holiday Island, Ark., and Lyle of Lake Mary, Fla.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Kingery.

He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1942 to 1946 and was also an Air National Guard veteran, serving from 1949 to 1952.

He was a life member of Carroll-Rankin American Legion Post 26, a member of Voiture 812 40et8 and Astoria Methodist Church.

He retired from Amax Coal Company in 1986 and was the present owner/operator of Riebling Spray Painting Company for 40 years.

Services will be held Friday at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with Rev. Carl Kingery, his nephew, officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Kost Memorial Home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery with military rites by his American Legion Post.
