Violet Powell

Violet Jean Powell, 64, of Lewistown died at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at her daughter's home in Lewistown.

She was born Aug. 14, 1936, in Sheffield, a daughter of Russell W. and Frances Hopping Pilger. She married Leroy E. Powell on Aug. 24, 1958, in Vermont. He died Dec. 27, 1975.

One infant daughter, Rosetta, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Andy (and Joyce) of Champaign, Leroy (and Clarice) of Vermont and Alvie (and Kathy) of Rushville; four daughters, Lily Powell (and Jack Stambaugh) and Brenda Powell, both of Bader, Tammy McCoy of Lewistown and Mary (and Kelly) Easley of Astoria; two sisters, Clara Mae (and Earl) Hilberer of Springfield and Judy (and Steve) Yeager of Havana; four brothers, Bill (and Nancy) Pilger of Ipava, Russell (and Sheila) Pilger Jr. of Peoria, Robert (and Phyllis) Pilger of Browning and Steve (and Phyllis) Pilger of Havana; and 14 grandchildren.

She was a homemaker.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, where visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight. Collis Trone will officiate. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Spoon River Towers in Lewistown.
