Bill PilgerWilliam “Bill” H. Pilger, 83, of Ipava died at 9:10 a.m. Jan. 1, 2023, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born July 17, 1939, in Chandlerville, a son of Russell and Frances Hopping Pilger. He married Nancy M. Hicke on July 17, 1959, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Sherry (and Tom) Worrall of Pekin; two sons, Terry (and Teressa Bortell) Pilger of Decatur and Brian (and Sabrina) Pilger of Macomb; three brothers, Russell (and Sheila) Pilger of Peoria, Robert (and Phyllis) Pilger of Browning and Steve Pilger of Havana; one sister, Clara Mae Hilberer of Springfield; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Violet Powell and Judy Yeager.

He worked for Cassidy Farms in Table Grove. He later went to work as supervisor for Pioneer Hybrids in Good Hope, retiring in 2001. While working for Pioneer, he traveled to Argentina and Chile in the winter of 1988-89 where he helped set-up their seed corn operations.

He served on the VIT School Board from 1974-81.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Macomb Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Judy Davenport officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.

Memorials may be made in Bill’s memory to Macomb Church of the Nazarene or Illinois Cancer Care.

Cremation rites will take place after the service with burial in the Ipava Cemetery at a later date.
