THELMA ILENE (STRODE) TAYLOR BURGE PURDY

Thelma Ilene Purdy, 80, of Washington, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 1996, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born Jan. 29, 1916, in Vermont, a daughter of Marvin and Delma Haney Strode.

Surviving are two sons, Jim Taylor of Washington and Denny Taylor of Cordova, Tenn.; three daughters, Shay Clark and Debbie Tribbett, both of Washington, and Sandy Hudson of Independence, Mo.; two sisters, Wilma Worsdell of Louisiana, Mo., and Wandalee Shields of Vermont; four brothers, Eldon Strode of Wickensburg, Ariz., Donald Strode of Dunlap, Bernard Strode of Mexico, Mo., and Max Strode of Bradford; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

One son, Randy Lee Burge, one granddaughter and one brother preceded her in death.

She worked in the tool crib at Caterpillar Inc. for 22 years before retiring. She was a member of American Legion Post 26 Auxiliary in Vermont.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington with Rev. Dean Beckwith officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery. Mason-White Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
