Rosa Mae Pollitt Dies At Home

Rosa PollittRosa Mae Pollitt, 77, of Astoria, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 1990, at her residence.

She was born May 5, 1913, in Deerfield Township, Fulton County, a daughter of Jesse W. and Fannie Elizabeth Loucht Utsinger. She married Wayne D. Pollitt on April 19, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. John (Juanita) Timson of Andalusia; one son, William D. of Astoria; three sisters, Hazel Everett of Peoria, Loretta Fisk of Astoria and Dorcas Farwell of Bushnell; and five grandchildren, Melissa Timson, Jeff Timson, Wade Pollitt, Heather Pollitt and Renee Pollitt. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary Carliete, Marjibelle, Idella, Shirley and Gertrude.

A Western Illinois University graduate, she taught school in Astoria for 41 years before retiring in 1975. She was a member of Fulton County Retired Teachers and the Delta Kappa Gamma teachers sorority.

She also was a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church and a member and past matron of Chapter 144, Order of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at her church, with Rev. Terry Westerfield officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.

Shawgo Memorial Home was in charge of arrangements. Eastern Star services were held there Sunday evening with Sharon Miller, George Fisk, Frances Briney, Madelyn Skiles, Betty Vaughn, Annie Barrett, Mary Hamm and Helen Wise taking part.

Memorials may be made to the Rosa Mae Pollitt Scholarship Fund in care of the Farmers State Bank and Trust Co. in Astoria.
