W. H. Poppenhager Dies At Age 68

Wayne H. “Riley” Poppenhager, 68, of 203 N. Robinson, Lewistown, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 1980, in Graham Hospital, Canton.

Born Aug. 24, 1912, in Astoria, a son of Carl and Grace Litchfield Poppenhager, he married Wanda L. Howard March 8, 1932, in Palmyra. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jack of Canton and Roger of rural Astoria; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Orlen and John, both of Astoria.

A half-brother preceded him in death.

He was a Fulton County automobile salesman 40 years, retiring in March from Art & Gene’s Chevrolet-Oldsmobile & Cadillac firm. He was a former member of Astoria Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown, with Rev. Walter Pruett officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery.
