LaVon Parr Dies In California

A long distant call was received last Monday night by Vernon Derry, telling of the sudden death by a heart attack of his brother-in-law, LaVon Parr of San Jose, Calif.

Ben Derry of Smithfield, Donald Derry and Mrs. Dorothy Brillhart of Astoria, left Tuesday morning for San Jose. The Parr’s were former residents of this vicinity.

Relatives and friends are extending heartfelt sympathy to the family of LaVon Parr of San Jose, Calif., who succumbed to a heart attack at his home on Monday evening, Dec. 28 at the age of 46.

He was a bargeman and one time operator of a pier and boat co. 

He leaves his wife, a daughter Mary Ellen Atchinson, and sons Larry of Santa Cruz, Calif. and Ronnie of the U. S. Navy; and three granddaughters, his mother, Mrs. Eva Parr, a sister, Mrs. Shirley Cook, and a half brother William Neuman, of California. All were formerly of this community. A half sister, Mrs. Cleo Branson lives at Ipava, Ill. Two half brothers, Carroll and Ralph Parr, and one half sister, Mrs. Vera VanOrder and father Webb Parr preceded him in death. The widow is a daughter of Newton Derry of Astoria.

Mrs. Cleo Branson, Ben and Donald Derry and Mrs. Galen Brillhart returned home recently from California after spending a few days with their sister.
